The
CHARMOUTH
Fly-In

For details of the next event, please got to www.charmouthheliflyin.co.uk
The Charmouth Fly-In is a weekend event held twice a year (usually April and October) for radio controlled helicopter enthusiasts. Having run since 1984 it is a well-established part of the hobby's calendar and is attended by pilots of all abilities. As well as giving everyone a chance to fly their models, it's a great chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. It's also a chance for people to buy and sell models and there are usually a large number of heli-bits on sale. In the evenings most people retire to the bar at the Newlands holiday camp for a good chin-wag and light refreshments!

Directions
Coming from Charmouth, take
the A35 heading west towards Axminster and Honiton. After about three
miles, as you pass through Raymond's Hill, keep an eye out for the Hunter's
Lodge Inn on the left-hand side. Turn left immediately after the pub and
after about two miles you will see the field on the left-hand side. If you
have an ordnance survey map of the area, the grid reference is approximately
304932. If you have a car navigation system that uses post codes, the post
code EX13 5SZ should get you to Raymond's Hill and you can make your way from
there.

Slope Soaring
An added feature of the
Charmouth weekend is the slope soaring which takes place on nearby cliffs.
When the wind gets up and pilots feel like a change they fly Zagis,
other gliders and even paragliders from the slope. Warning! Please don't approach
the edge of the cliffs as they are badly undercut in some places and there is a
danger of creating a landslip.
To get there, turn left out of Newlands Holiday camp, after about 300 metres turn sharp left and follow the narrow road that leads to the top of the hill (note that this road is a dead end - you can't keep driving along it to get back onto the A35). Just after you go over the cattle grid there is a car park (free) on the right. Look for the gate on the right that marks the path that leads down to the cliffs and the flying site.
