Welcome to the Heli-Lessons
website. I'm Nigel Fraser Ker, an experienced radio controlled
helicopter pilot, registered as an instructor with the BMFA and based in
the UK near
Leatherhead in Surrey. At our flight school we can offer affordable lessons to pilots ranging from
complete beginners to intermediate 3D. We mainly teach in Leatherhead in Surrey
and are pleased to say that we have classroom
facilities for teaching indoors.

Our aim is to help you to get the most out of flying radio controlled helicopters. It's a great sport but it isn't easy and takes many hours of practice. Even achieving a successful hover is a real challenge for those new to the sport and it's generally accepted that R/C helicopters are even more difficult to fly than their full-size equivalents. All too many newcomers start off with great enthusiasm but give up because they don't have the support they need. Don't let this happen to you - let us help you to get started!
Depending on your experience, we will...
Give your model an initial
check-over. Make sure everything is working correctly and
safely.
Get
the engine started and show you how to tune it correctly.
Set up the helicopter and
trim it so that it is
easier for you to learn to fly.
Go over the correct safety precautions
with you before flying.
Teach you to get into a
stable
hover.
Help you to progress to the
'Lazy 8' and nose-in flying.
Advise you on more difficult
flying attitudes such as the nose-in hover and basic aerobatics
Take you into basic 3-D
If you require tuition using a 'buddy box' system, we are equipped to do this with JR, Futaba, Hitec, Multiplex and Sanwa transmitters.
We can also teach you to master smaller indoor electric helicopters such the Hirobo XRB.
Insurance
Please note that for outdoor tuition
you must have insurance. The easy way to get this is simply to fill
in this form and
join the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). It doesn't cost
much and it gives great 'peace-of-mind' value!
Model
Building and Repairs
Normally we expect students to build and repair their own
helicopters. However, we do offer a model-building and repair
service for special clients - please contact us for details.
